Project launch!

Hi! I’m Chris Nichols, amateur historian of Garrett County, MD. You can find more than you ever wanted to know about me over at my website, dimesy.com

Over the years, I’ve put together a series of history presentations that look at the history of the County through different perspectives – maps, energy production, development of Deep Creek Lake, etc. As a Veteran, I’ve been struck by the intersection of Garrett County with our Nation’s wars and conflicts. For nearly every one of these, there is an interesting and unique connection, beyond the stories of service members who served in them. So, here comes my next project: The Military Heritage of Garrett County. This one’s got some potential to grow well beyond just an article and powerpoint, so I’ve set up this website to collect, curate and archive the work.

I’m launching this project in 2026, which is our course our Nation’s Semiquincentennial. Garrett County is planning a number of projects and events to align with America25o so there will be a lot of potential for collaboration and connections.
